Hannah gave her a cold look before softening toward Amelie. “Just teasing. Why the long face, ma’am?”
Amelie plastered on a smile, steering the conversation back. “Let’s focus on Elsa’s mess. Why’s it suddenly our problem?”
“Exactly.” Hannah fired back smoothly. “If you hadn’t chimed in, why would it have suddenly become your problem?”
Turning to Remington, she continued, “Mr. Lyons, even if Elsa’s whip hadn’t hit my horse, I would still have had an accident on the racetrack.”
Remington’s face fell. “What do you mean?”

Remington stayed quiet, then looked at Hannah. “You’re right. Your horse was doped, making it go wild.”
